I recently received a comment on my Facebook about the items that I chose for my articles were from “last century.” That was a great comment! I need comments like these to motivate myself to do better, but I thought I want to clarify the purpose of this blog a little bit. As an artist, I’m giving the make-up and fashion tips for those of you who needed it, plus some new trends and new items. They are not necessarily all the newest items because I keep telling everyone, trends comes and goes, BE YOURSELF! Don’t rule by the trends and the pretty things. If you want to be stylish and get to know how things should be done correctly, welcome to my blog. If you want to be Fashion Forward, you don’t need my blog, you’re probably faster by looking at the items in a magazine, or see the Designers Runway videos for next season on Youtube, or look at Lady GaGa. (I think this sentence could be “boo…” by many people =P) I’m here to create a platform for viewers to discuss and comment on fashion, not just on the items, and you don’t need the newest items to be Fashion Forward. Lady GaGa dress up with old garbage bags will still get people talking.

She is wearing a pair of Wayfarer!!
I’m not a nerd, but I like to have my glasses on, which used to be the signature of a nerd, but not anymore, it’s becoming an accessory, even for people who do not need prescription glasses. I have a friend who never need glasses to read, he put them on just for fun. It has becoming a trend for a while, the reason that I didn’t post this until now is because I didn’t find some really great glasses that caught my eyes. However, I recently find something amazing as I was flipping through the latest issue of InStyle magazine, which made me wanna write about the glasses that I saw. So let me give you the hottest nerdy look for the season.

Tweed used to look very old fashion to me. My mom would wear tweeds, only from Chanel, and not the gray ones, she’s got the jackets in navy blue tweed , black tweed and a pink with white tweed for spring, I guess those are the only ones that look acceptable to me. Not to mention the Houndstooth…never like them. This year though, there are a lot of tweed and houndstooth going on, Moschino, DKNY, John Rocha, Karl Lagerfeld, and Michael Kors are all great supporters for tweed and houndstooth.

I was never a fan of Chanel. Yes…I know it’s quite unbelievable. It wasn’t my style though, the quilted handbags, the pencil skirts, the suits, the cardigans…they were too lady. But I guess as I slowly approaching 30, I started to appreciate the elegance of Chanel more, and really…Chanel is not for young rich kids.

Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Pencil Liner
2 days ago, I walked by a local store called Smart Maple, (this is so Canadian ^o^!!) a store that sells cheesy Japanese Sanrio stuff like Hello Kitty. I’m not a fan because I passed that stage long ago, but something just caught my eyes and I couldn’t help but to walked over and check out the new station with all the Japanese cosmetic products. I mean the real local Japanese brands, stuff that are all written in Japanese, don’t even have English on it. I picked up this eyeliner “Heavy Rotation – Smooth Line” from a brand called Kiss Me for $15.99 CDN, tried to read the Kenji with all the knowledge that I have in Chinese, hopefully I could find something about whether if it’s waterproof, but nothing…as expected. (cuz I can’t read Japanese) I don’t think the girls there read it either, so I didn’t bother to ask. I thought, it doesn’t hurt to try because I think the Japanese are smart enough to figure out that we need waterproof.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Nasty Gal, an online vintage shopping site which also carries new brands like Eryn Brinie, Jeffrey Campbell, MinkPink, Costume Dept, Morphine Generation…etc. If you are into unique styles, enjoy being different, you will find this website addictive and inspiring. Usually, only 1 item is available for any vintage piece and they are sold out fast. I’m totally in love with this vintage Hermès Silk Scarf, or this Chanel Silk Scarf. They have new items added weekly, anywhere from floral dresses to ripped jeans, and don’t forget their accessories section!

"MY OTHER BAG IS LOUIS VUITTON" mini tote, USD$45
I subscribed newsletters from a couple of Japanese online stores at Rakutan so that I can keep updated with the latest Japanese fashion and trends, and I realize that Japan is very fast in terms of screaming out their they unique trends and styles. Anyways, so I’ve the newsletter e-mail from a store, I opened it and I can’t stop laughing about these canvas bags…the letters written on the bag as “MY OTHER BAG IS LOUIS VUITTON.” I thought this must be some kind of joke from the Japanese, I clicked into the website and see if there are other selections, I saw the same bag with Hermès, Chanel, and Gucci…and then I found out, the bags were actually designed by a New Yorker – Jessica Kagan Cushman (JKC).

Fashion and beauty always comes in a package. Each year, make-up is always part of the focus for premium designers runway show, and there is no surprise that the whatever make-up style appears on these shows will become the trend of the season. Yves Saint Laurent did the Black Lips at their Fall/Winter collection 2008/2009, and then the black lip-gloss came out in a limited availability during their fall 2008 beauté collection. For Fall/Winter 2009/2010, Dolce & Gabbana runway show is celebrating the artistic wave of 1920s, and there are a couple of pieces printed with Marilyn Monroe, which is also the inspiration of their newly introduced cosmetic line – Dolce & Gabbana Beauty.

From Saks Fifth Avenue USD$300
We all know that Kenneth Jay Lane (KJL) is known for his “high fashion” design, and I’m sure a lot of divas including myself are attracted to his pieces. Celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, the Olsen sisters and Mischa Barton had all approved his designs.

Garden Party Ring USD$98
In March 2009, KJL has launched his latest collection – the “Garden Party”. I have selected couple of pieces that I like from this wonderfully feminine collection in this post.
