Whether you like photography or just enjoy taking snap shots all over the place, a compact digital camera is always your best friend.  Personally, I like to pack my gear, go out and take some “real shots” with my Canon EOS 5D or just go the old fashion way, use my EOS 1V film camera to do the artistic job……if I have spare moments.  Right, it really is a hazard sometimes when I realize that my gear is heavier then everything else that I brought to a trip, so I bought this Panasonic Lumix LX-2K compact digital camera a couple of years ago to satisfy my hunger of shooting 24/7.

I have no complain for my Lumix so far, it’s black and looked very old school, which I loved, but for those of you who really wants to show some style, and wanted the performance at the same time, here are some of my personal picks.

Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS

Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS, USD$200

Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS, USD$200

Features:  10.0 MP, 3x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, Optical Image Stabilization, Face Detection, Smart Auto, ISO 3200 mode (auto)

Colours:  Dark Gray, Blue, Pink, Green, Light Gray and Orange

Canon is always the market leather, their quality is superb, Canon is known for studio portrait shooting for a slightly softer and smoother result.  It’s the best for taking pictures with family and friends for a going out evening.  Excellent features with reasonable prices, can’t go wrong with it.

Nikon Coolpix S220

Nikon Coolpix S220, USD$150

Nikon Coolpix S220, USD$150

Features:  10.0 MP, 3x Zoom-Nikkor (optical), 4x digital zoom, Electronic VR Image Stabilization, Sensitivity up to ISO 2000, Quick Retouch for contrast & saturation

Colours:  Soft Silver, Black, Aqua Green, Magenta, Purple, Cobalt Blue and Red

There is an intense competition between Canon and Nikon in the past decade, so Nikon is definitely up for the game with compatible quality.  Nikon also gives you sharper images, so it’s ideal for taking pictures in motion and landscapes.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T90

Sony Cyber-Shot T90, USD$299

Sony Cyber-Shot T90, USD$299

Features:  12.1 MP, Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® Lens with 4x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, Sensitivity up to ISO3200, Optical Image Stabilization, Smart Zoom® Technology

Colours:  Silver, Black, Blue, Pink, and Brown

Sony always gives the best design.  This is the thinnest camera (just under 15mm) out of all the cameras in here, with the highest resolution of 12.1MP, the Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® Lens is a bonus for those of you who really cares about the quality of the lens, and with ISO 3200 you can take sharper images even in low lights.  Price-wise it is more expensive, but who cares, Sony’s design sells itself!!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7, USD$160

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7, USD$160

Features:  10.1 MP, 4x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, Optical Image Stabilization, face detection, Leica DC Vario-Elmar Lens, Shutter speed up to 1/2000 (auto)

Colours:  Silver, Black, Pink, Blue and Green

I started to pay more attention to Lumix cameras after I own my first.  The price is unbeatable consider what it’s featuring, the Leica lens, 4x optical zoom (most cameras only come in 3x), and a faster shutter speed will give you sharper pictures in motions.  However, I have to tell you that I’m not thrill with the colours, it’s a bit too neon-ish to me, but hey, you can’t go wrong with a black or silver right?

I honestly can’t tell you which one is the best, it really depends on what you need, everything counts, the brand, the design, the features, and the price, so just find one that suits your needs.  Now, what’s better then being stylish, high-tech and artistic??
