In cosmetics, this summer is all about the blues for eye shadows. But wait…not everyone can pull off the blues, I normally couldn’t, so what’s so different about the blues this year? They all have a gold undertone, so it’s not really a cool blue, they are more like goldish turquoise blue, which looked quite amazing. I worked on the event with Laura Mercier at the beginning of May and I just loved the new blue. I also had the Summer Look event with YSL and the new blue cream shadow is equally amazing, so let’s take a look at the Summer Blues of the season.

For some reason, Laura always came up with better quality limited edition items, same goes with the eyeshadow. The limited edition Marina is a blue that has a gold undertone, it works great with bronze or gold shadows. I paired it up with the Sundown (a dark bronze), and smudged with a copper or dark brown crayon pencil, which turned out great! The blue in Marina is not overwhelmed and it looks great with different eye colours. Texture is very silky, one sweep is all you need!

Yves Saint Laurent – water resistant cream eyeshadow in Riviera Blue

If you are a quick and go person, try the YSL water resistant cream eyeshadow, trust me, they stay! Riviera Blue also has a gold undertone, but it it stands out more than Marina, so if you really like to see some colour, go with Riviera Blue. You can use your finger to apply it as a shadow, or use a liner brush to use it as a liner, like what we did for the YSL Summer Look campaign, it looks gorgeous!

Givenchy – Le Prisme Unique Eyeshadow in Island Lagoon

I’ve always been a fan of Givenchy, mainly because of the package, but I wasn’t in love with the single shadows, the texture wasn’t as nice as the quartets. While I was kind of disappointed about the quality of them, the summer collection came in and I was totally in love. There are 2/3 colours blended into a single shadow and you can totally play with it. The quality is much better than the regular ones, but you might need a bit of the technique in blending the darker blue because blue pigment is one of the hardest to blend if you aren’t great with putting on makeup, but it’s pure fun for having more than 1 colour in a single shadow!! Not to mentioned the matching blue mascara, totally fun!

Giorgio Armani – Mediterranean palette

Giorgio Armani Beauty always come out with amazing limited edition palette that get you hooked. The Mediterranean palette contains 4 shadows, a blue, a bronze, 2 greens and a bronzer. I honestly don’t think I need anything more. I’ve tried the blue on my colleague (she has aqua blue eyes and blonde hair), with black eyeliner, it looked amazing! The blue also has gold undertone, with a hint of shimmer, I love it so much that I ended up had to buy the palette for myself. I wish I could have the link for you to purchase online but it wasn’t on the official website and not on the Saks.com either. So I guess you’ll have to go to the counter and try it out. Good luck!

Since summer is officially here, more summer cosmetics and fragrance will be coming! I apologize for the slow update these days, just got a new job, now I’m officially full time beauty adviser, so I’ll definitely post more fashion and beauty tips. Most of my friends knew that I’m a bit crazy about Chantecaille.  If you are not exactly sure what is that, you should really get to know it.  I’m one of my all time favourite cosmetic brands.  Haven’t heard I mentioned this before?  Well…it’s because it wasn’t in Canada last year.

Anyways, enough of saying how much I love the brand, I’ll tell you what’s good about it.  If you don’t know about Sylvie Chantecaille, she’s the founder of Chantecaille, and she created Prescriptives for Estée Lauder before started her own line.  Chantecaille wanted to create a line that uses all natural ingredients.  In fact, most of the Chantecaille skincare and cosmetics are Paraben free, and the loose powders are Talc-free.  The skincare contain ingredients that are anti-aging, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacteria, some of the products even contained natural SPF, so it is very good for people who are allergic to SPF but needed that protection.

I was lucky enough to actually meet Sylvie Chantecaille in person on an event that we did on 4th March, and surprisingly, Sylvie is so down to earth!  I’m sharing some photos that I took from the event, I apologize for the poor quality of the photos because we weren’t allow to use cameras at all, so I just did it with my phone.

One last thing to mention about Chantecaille, if you know about her, you’ll notice that some of the items contains an image of nature, for example le tiger, les dauphins, or la baleine.  For each of that items that’s sold, Chantecaille will donate 5% to the related charities, so she really is putting an effort to protect the nature.  Click here for more information.

Lee McQueen’s design is definitely one of a kind, irreplaceable, like Gianni Versace, regardless who is taking over the brand, Alexander McQueen will never be the same again.  R.I.P.

Louis Vuitton Jumpsuit

You probably wondered where was I all this time.  I was really busy at work, digging all the documents, but I also had a little break during Christmas and New Year.  I was traveling in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in the past 2 weeks, which was a great recharge, and of course, didn’t miss out doing a little shopping in Asia.  (more like window shopping =P)  Honestly, there isn’t much local fashion around the area except Hawaii shirts, which is not really local either.  I ended going back to the designer stores and see what’s in for Spring 2010.

I walked by Louis Vuitton in Singapore and saw this gorgeous jumpsuit, but of course, it costs a fortune.   If you haven’t notice that already, but jumpsuit is one of the hottest trends in S/S 2010.  Let’s take a look at my selection.

Vince Surplus Silk Jumpsuit in Black, USD$325.  I found the back really sexy.  I like the twist on the neck line from the back, and the elegance of the outfit, 95% silk also makes the jumpsuit nice and sleek.

Shoshanna One Shoulder Jumpsuit in Black, USD$405.  One should, high waist line, wide legs, and just look at the simplicity of the design, what more do you want???

Sheri Bodell Lisbon Strapless Jumpsuit in black, USD$348.  Matellic is still “IN” in S/S 2010, metal paillettes makes this piece stands out already, but strapless and shorts just raise the temperature.

Robert Rodriguez Silky Jumpsuit with Belt, USD$528.  Rodriguez makes great dresses, his design in casual wear is equally outstanding.  I love the idea of long sleeves with draping cutout shoulders, it looks very powerful from the front, and sexy from the back, love the skinny legs too!!

Dolce Vita Jolene Jumpsuit, USD$286.  I like the deep V neck line of this piece with metal fringes, very military like.  The shine of the silk completes the 70s looks, featuring long dolman sleeves and slim fit bottom, very rock n’ roll~

Current/Elliott Short Sleeve Jumpsuit, USD$359.  Classic material with not so classic design.  This denim jumpsuit is featuring a deep V neck line and 3/4 slouchy legs, which looks rustic yet feminine.

Catherine Malandrino Cowl Neck Jumpsuit, USD$495.  I like the conservative wrap design with wide legs.  The bow at the back makes it look very Oriental, reminds me of Japanese Kimono, but more classy, I can actually wear this to work.

Is black too dull for you?  I’ll pick some colourful ones for my next post, well…Spring is coming soon, WE NEED COLOURS!!!

I feel sorry that Sonia Rykiel for H&M because it’s very hard to be launch after Jimmy Choo, even thought it was something completely different, well…this is a lingerie line for H&M.  But I’ve heard ladies on the phone on November 14th saying that they spent like $2k buying Jimmy Choo for H&M, so I wonder if this is still a good period of time to launch this.  Never-the-less, this is not my concern.   Going back to the design, I think Sonia Rykiel shown us the best example of “less is more.”  Lingerie lines these days shown a lot of details, used a lot of luxurious materials like lace, silk, and so forth.  I see the point for that, but I prefer something comfortable, because lingerie becomes part of your body.  If you are one of the people who like what I called as “Simple Elegance” you are going to like this collection for sure.  Now let’s take a look at the runway video first.

Now, talk about Sonia Rykiel’s fine apparel.  It is becoming younger and more playful, so it’s definitely in my list now.  Unfortunately it is very rare and hard to find here in Toronto, so I pretty much just gave up searching for her apparel, but I certainly wouldn’t mind owning one or two when I have the chance to.  What do you think ladies?  (I know the men are gonna love this video, LOL~)  We’re definitely going to see a line up this Saturday, but I hope it is not going to be as crazy as Jimmy Choo. ^-~

I was lucky enough to pick up a blue dress myself and I thought I did a pretty good job given the fact that I went in late and didn’t have to line up for nothing.  Honestly, I just don’t see myself camping outside a retail store, it’s November and it’s cold here in Toronto, I truly admired the ladies here who went camping overnight and I think they definitely deserve to get everything they wanted.  The most I would do is spend my one month pay check just for one piece of jacket, and I would probably ran for a jacket if the store is about to close and I really need to pick it up, but camping on the street while it’s 0°C outside?  I don’t think so.  I mean…would you do that?

Fifi Lapin – quoted as the world’s most stylish bunny by Elle magazine. Fifi’s been around the world, wearing all kinds of fabulous outfits since 2007. She has recently started an official e-shop selling her very own drawings, prints and cards.  Forever 21, Delias, Le Sportsac and Topshop, just to name a few, are big fans of hers. Who knows one day she could be appearing on your countertop, binder, mug, even your bath mat.

Formally should be called “Perfume Bottle Collectors.”  I guess we all are!  More than often we buy perfume because the bottle looks good, isn’t it?  Well…I just found the prettiest perfume bottle design from Van Cleef & Arpels (Van Cleef in short).  This may not be new, we I rarely see stores that actually sell it.  I guess it’s because of the brand, that is not really popular in Canada.  I’ve known Van Cleef from their extraordinary jewelry and watch design; which of course, are extremely expensive as well.  Not until I first saw the Féerie perfume…I thought this is something that I could afford.  Not like they are as expensive as the Creed, still…they are not cheap, but it’s totally worth it.  They are actually the only perfume that I bought without even knowing anything about scent.  (Usually I tried at least)  Take a look at them and you’ll agree!!

The design reminds me with the Anna Sui Secret Wish, only that it executed much better.  Of course, they are in completely different level, but same idea about using the Fairy.

By the way, I spray a little just before writing this, I thought it’ll give me a better idea of what’s the scent really like.  It may be a little too strong for me, but it does have a very nice musky floral scent, which is very feminine.  I am probably not going to wear that, it’s like a nice piece of jewelry to collect.

Now that I mentioned about Van Cleef & Arpels, I think I’ll do some research on their jewelry and watch design, I’ll put a post up next in the near future about that.

Don’t you just love it already?  You can see all the fall trends in these photos: studs, leather, sequins, suede, chunky jewelries and over-the-knee boots, they all make a bold statement.  Now we need to get down into details, let’s take a look at the lookbook for the ladies.

I love the simplicity of the colours and the edginess of the design.  I also checked the price, I think beside the long dress, everything is between $25-$250USD.  It may not be the usual H&M price for some of the pieces, but it’s definitely worth every penny.  Comme des Garçons was even more expensive with the wicked designed dress last year.  I guess it’s different though, Jimmy Choo is definitely more glamourous and upscale.  How let’s take a look at the gentlemen’s.

The items are more simple for men, but you’ll be able to see more of them from the official websites, I remember seeing a pair of jeans.  I love the fitting of the suit and the leather jacket, the shoes are also stunning, both the shine and the suede leather, I wish Jimmy Choo has more looks for men.  So gentlemen, what do you think?
