I was shocked when I heard the death of Lee McQueen, the designer of Alexander McQueen today. I didn’t know how to react. Not too long after I read the news online, I got my friends’ text messages about the death of McQueen. Amélie and I were both very upset, even regret that we didn’t own a piece or two from the very talented designer. So this is a little tribute to Mr. Lee McQueen, let’s take a look at the very last runway show from McQueen and see what he contributed to this industry.
You probably wondered where was I all this time. I was really busy at work, digging all the documents, but I also had a little break during Christmas and New Year. I was traveling in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in the past 2 weeks, which was a great recharge, and of course, didn’t miss out doing a little shopping in Asia. (more like window shopping =P) Honestly, there isn’t much local fashion around the area except Hawaii shirts, which is not really local either. I ended going back to the designer stores and see what’s in for Spring 2010.
I remember when I first heard about Sonia Rykiel years ago, Sonia was re-launching her cosmetic line in Asia. It was one of the popular cosmetic brands there, it wasn’t until later that I discovered her fine apparel. I can’t say that I love the apparel line back then because of age, I don’t think I was at the right age to look at them, nor do I have the money to purchase them. Anyways, I’m sure you have known about Sonia Rykiel for H&M will be in store this Saturday, December 6th, which I got the news couple of months back then but wasn’t really focusing on it because we were all overwhelmed by Jimmy Choo for H&M.
As the Jimmy Choo @ H&M becomes the history, I still can’t help wondering how much can we sacrifice for fashion. I went to Eatons at 9:40 in the morning thinking I want to take a look at how it’s like, and really…it was like a zoo. It was only 10 minutes after the store opened and everything was gone. Hundreds of people left empty hands and some cried because they couldn’t buy anything. I heard the sales saying that people started lining up the day before, which sounded really crazy to me…but just take a look at the pictures here.
Fifi Lapin – quoted as the world’s most stylish bunny by Elle magazine. Fifi’s been around the world, wearing all kinds of fabulous outfits since 2007. She has recently started an official e-shop selling her very own drawings, prints and cards. Forever 21, Delias, Le Sportsac and Topshop, just to name a few, are big fans of hers. Who knows one day she could be appearing on your countertop, binder, mug, even your bath mat.
Formally should be called “Perfume Bottle Collectors.” I guess we all are! More than often we buy perfume because the bottle looks good, isn’t it? Well…I just found the prettiest perfume bottle design from Van Cleef & Arpels (Van Cleef in short). This may not be new, we I rarely see stores that actually sell it. I guess it’s because of the brand, that is not really popular in Canada. I’ve known Van Cleef from their extraordinary jewelry and watch design; which of course, are extremely expensive as well. Not until I first saw the Féerie perfume…I thought this is something that I could afford. Not like they are as expensive as the Creed, still…they are not cheap, but it’s totally worth it. They are actually the only perfume that I bought without even knowing anything about scent. (Usually I tried at least) Take a look at them and you’ll agree!!
I was digging into the Jimmy Choo for H&M back in June when H&M released the press release for the project. The campaign picture has been release, as well as the lookbook for accessories and apparel. Let’s take a look at the campaign pictures and we’ll get into the details later.
Don’t you just love it already? You can see all the fall trends in these photos: studs, leather, sequins, suede, chunky jewelries and over-the-knee boots, they all make a bold statement. Now we need to get down into details, let’s take a look at the lookbook for the ladies.
Temptu launched its AIRbrush Makeup System and AIR pod Foundation at Sephora, I was actually interested until I saw the price. I wanted to see how it really looked so I tried it when I was at the Sephore store in NYC, not that I have no experience of airbrush make-up, but just out of curiosity as a make-up artist. In fact, I used airbrush make-up since I was in make-up school, it was fairly new to us back then and we were all exciting about using airbrush make-up. However, I must admit that it wasn’t my favourite for a couple of reasons.
I recently received a comment on my Facebook about the items that I chose for my articles were from “last century.” That was a great comment! I need comments like these to motivate myself to do better, but I thought I want to clarify the purpose of this blog a little bit. As an artist, I’m giving the make-up and fashion tips for those of you who needed it, plus some new trends and new items. They are not necessarily all the newest items because I keep telling everyone, trends comes and goes, BE YOURSELF! Don’t rule by the trends and the pretty things. If you want to be stylish and get to know how things should be done correctly, welcome to my blog. If you want to be Fashion Forward, you don’t need my blog, you’re probably faster by looking at the items in a magazine, or see the Designers Runway videos for next season on Youtube, or look at Lady GaGa. (I think this sentence could be “boo…” by many people =P) I’m here to create a platform for viewers to discuss and comment on fashion, not just on the items, and you don’t need the newest items to be Fashion Forward. Lady GaGa dress up with old garbage bags will still get people talking.
I’m not a nerd, but I like to have my glasses on, which used to be the signature of a nerd, but not anymore, it’s becoming an accessory, even for people who do not need prescription glasses. I have a friend who never need glasses to read, he put them on just for fun. It has becoming a trend for a while, the reason that I didn’t post this until now is because I didn’t find some really great glasses that caught my eyes. However, I recently find something amazing as I was flipping through the latest issue of InStyle magazine, which made me wanna write about the glasses that I saw. So let me give you the hottest nerdy look for the season.
